Mr. Simmons
I have Master of Arts in Teaching in Middle Grades Mathematics and a Bachelor’s Degree in History with an English Minor, both from Louisiana Tech University. I am also certified to teach Algebra 1, Geometry, and Business Education.
In addition to being a teacher, I am the owner of Shreveport Security Systems. I began working in education as a substitute teacher in Caddo Parish in 2019 and continued to sub until I began teaching full time in 2021. My first official job as a teacher was as an 8th Grade Math Teacher at Youree Drive Middle AP Magnet School, where I taught for two years.
I am married to Claire Simmons, and together we have two children, 1 boy and 1 girl. Claire is the Art Teacher at A.C. Steere Elementary. As a family, we enjoy our time together, and spend it in many entertaining ways: Swimming, Camping, Gaming, Trips, and anything that involves Disney.
Teaching Philosophy
All students desire to be realistically challenged by someone that is passionate about what they do. Through challenges, students will become more curious, more confident, and ultimately more enthusiastic about school.
I believe that, ultimately, enthusiasm is key to a student’s education. If a student does not feel challenged, curious, or confident, or worse, if their teacher lacks passion, then the students will not be enthused about coming to school. Since I believe that students should be challenged, my teaching style is dynamic, meant to adapt around the needs of the students. I bring enthusiasm and humor to the classroom. I am a dedicated to stoking curiosity and confidence, challenging students to find their passion and to become enthusiastic about learning.
